If there is a way to convert this Americanization of the Mother Tongue, maybe someone will please tell me.
As for Nikki's interpretation, what can I say?
They win!
More on the Olympics to come.

Thanks for the comments.Pidgy Gordonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04862449114998197830noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4717226957866444241.post-3108230264750830662010-02-23T19:52:02.543-05:002010-02-23T19:52:02.543-05:00Dear Gregarius

Like you, I found the overall "show" on the slow side. But there were, for me, positives:
* the inclusion of the native/aboriginal/first nation/ we got here first people (sorry; I'm not good at the latest p.c. terms, being a Mac user) was a positive, insofar as it may change the perceptions of the uninformed masses who think "Indian=drunken scrapper". There is a rich culture there that should be given more respect and room to flourish. Let's face it; the problems of first nations peoples and reserves are of our making, not theirs. If only Mr. Harper had the will to do more than give them stage room for a few hours
* The show did give a chance for other countries to become re-aware of those who have done "stuff" beyond our borders (o.k. we would give them credit only if the HAD done stuff beyond our borders)
*There was more white inside the presentation stadium than there was outside!
And a question or two for you to think about:
As much as Nikki Yanovsky has talent - being misdirected I think - would any other nation garble the national anthem with trills and pop music screaming? The russian republic? China?? But then I am used to hearing it sung in a high school each morning in a different way: As if Mozart had written it; as if it is to be sung at a funeral; as a country /western hurtin' song ( and it does hurt)...
Last question: what are your thoughts on the "own the podium" movement? To my mind it makes us look ridiculous. There is not the support - or the government money - to own anything. Why compete in this way with the big guys - America, Germany, Russia - who have the ability and choose to develop the talent, instead of glorying in our pose as the polite people. Let's just be good hosts and good sports, until we have the will to do anything else.
Will continue to read your blogs - love your humour, insight , and style.
cheersgregariushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03694253968353159622noreply@blogger.com
